I agree with your theory, but in practice, as any parent will tell you, you can never "let go" of a child. It's difficult enough to 'let go' when you have a buried corpse in a graveyard to visit and mourn, but when the whereabouts of the body and soul of your 4 year old is unknown, you can not 'let go'.

You can never let go of your child. I know first hand of someone who looked for her missing son for 27 years until she found him by pure chance. One day she was having lunch on a small family run restaurant and striked up a conversation with a couple of strangers eating next to her. It turned out those strangers had been living in Brazil and had an adopted son whose parents had died (or so they believed). To cut a long story short it turned out that this boy was this woman's son. It's an amazing story but a true one and if one wrote a book about it people would say it was made up. It just goes to show you should never lose hope, you never know life can be more imaginative than fiction.

They cannot let this go without some form of closure. Whether this will be the positive outcome they seek is another matter. Personally, I cannot blame them for returning. They need to satisfy themselves that everything possible is being done to close this case one way or another. This is their daughter for goodness sake. They need to explore all avenues and if this is what it takes then good for them. I hope they find her. Good luck to them.

I have been following up on the case since May 4, 2007 and still think that despite everything that has been and will be done, the child is very possibly gone, tht is, Madeleine may never be found. I hate to come to this conclusion but the playing elements make me feel that way.

"Let this go" !! This is not a lost pet. This is a child. Barrie in Stockon-on-Tees you possibly cannot be a parent - if you are, shame on you. Regardless of all the bad press, these people have still had their child taken - I could never, ever stop looking if this was my child either. I don't know if I could deal with it all. I would go mad. These people need closure, and this will not happen until she is found, whatever the outcome. I for one, hope they get it.

The fact that they don't know what happened to Madeleine must be the hardest thing for Kate and Gerry. They don't know whether she is dead or alive or what happened at all in fact. In these circumstances it must be virtually impossible to 'let it go'. You need information and details to be able to give closure. I know I would never give up trying to find out what happened.

Losing your child must be sheer torture . If it was me, I would have definitely gone out of my mind wondering what had happened/was happening to my child & their complete terror. It just doesn't bear thinking about & the McCanns must be suffering pain every day.
