SUSSEX EXPRESS: 04 JUNE 2007

FIVE thoughtful friends from Seaford Head Community College have joined forces to raise money for the Madeleine McCann Appeal.

The four-year-old went missing from a holiday resort in Praia da Luz, Portugal, on May 3. The world has been gripped by the story and millions of pounds have been donated to the appeal to find her.

Lauren Morgan, 12, Danielle Mann, 11, Lily Springall, 12, Charlotte Plastow, 12 and Lucy Melville, 11, were watching the news and felt compelled to do something to help.

Lauren said: 'We spoke about it and thought we would like to help Madeleine's parents.'

The girls have been sewing yellow ribbons by hand and selling them at school.

'Our fingers hurt,' added Lauren. 'We have made about 70 and have been buying the ribbon from the shop Threads and Things in Saxon Lane. A nice lady there helps us with the safety pins we put on the ribbons.'
The girls put their own money towards getting the ribbon and are asking for a suggested donation of 50p but would be grateful for more.

Headteacher Lynton Golds has given the girls permission to sell the ribbons at school.
