THE father of missing four-year-old Madeleine McCann will be interviewed about his experiences at this year's Edinburgh International Television festival.

Gerry McCann will talk about the role that television and the media have played in the hunt for his daughter, organisers said.

The youngster was snatched from her bed during a family holiday to Portugal on 3 May and the case attracted widespread media attention.

Mr McCann will be interviewed by Kirsty Wark in the festival's Richard Dunn interview.

Peter Barron, the Edinburgh International Television Festival advisory chair, said the McCanns' campaign to find their daughter had been "a new and moving phenomenon in 2007".

He added: "We are very pleased to welcome Gerry McCann to Edinburgh to share his thoughts on how harnessing the power of the modern media can be used to help others in similar situations."

Other highlights of the festival include a lecture by Newsnight presenter Jeremy Paxman,

and a talk by Vint Cerf, the vice president of Google.

There will also be events at the festival, which runs from 24 August to 26 August, to mark the 25th anniversary of Channel 4.
