"(...) "Despite of the English investigators willingness the steps at stake must be authorized by the Portuguese authorities. A PJ source as assured to Público that the Attorney General's Office (PGR) has recently received a letter rogatory in which the British authorities require several steps that have not yet been authorized. The PJ has not confirmed if the request includes excavations.

In fact, the same source said that some of the proceedings, given their nature, should not be approved. The requests that are authorized can also take place on the ground with or without the presence of the English police investigators, stressed the PJ source. Público questioned the Attorney General's Office (PGR) that so far has not provided any clarification.

Latest - Excavation approved by Attorney General's Office [PGR]. English allowed to make searches with ground-radar equipment and excavations only if need arises under PJ's supervision.
