The pupils took part in the huge balloon launch for Madeleine

Hundreds of Glasgow children have launched balloons to help publicise the plight of missing Madeleine McCann.

The Bankhead Primary School pupils have joined the campaign for Madeleine, who vanished in Portugal on 3 May.

Madeleine's aunt, Diane McCann, is a P3 teacher at the Knightswood school and the pupils and staff were keen to show support for her and her family.

About 400 balloons were released which had tags attached with the Madeleine appeal information.

The tags included the UK and international telephone numbers for people to pass on any relevant information.

The hope is that the balloons will travel all across Europe and can help publicise the missing person campaign being undertaken by the McCann family and friends.

Diane McCann said: "The family is delighted with the efforts of my colleagues and the pupils at the school - any help that can keep Madeleine in the public eye is very gratefully received."
