KATE McCann yesterday demanded more help and support for the families of
missing children.
The 43-year-old, whose daughter Madeleine was snatched in 'Portugal four
years ago, accused authorities of leaving devastated parents in the dark
on progress.
Kate said: 'As a parent of a missing child or
adult, you need to know that everything that can reasonably be done is
being done. To be left in the dark when your child is missing and at
risk is unbearable and bordering on the inhumane.
'Professional psychological help and
support is essential.
'If your house is burgled, you are automatically offered victim support
with emotional, 'practical and legal assistance.
'If your child goes missing, you may get nothing.' The GP, of Rothley, Leics, was at the All Party
'Parliamentary Group on Runaway and Missing
Children and Adults. She was joined by Sarah Godwin, whose son Quentin,
18, vanished in New Zealand in 1992, and Nicki Durbin, mum of missing
Luke, 19.
But Kate said she was confident Madeleine, who was four when she
vanished, will be found ' especially as Scotland Yard has now promised
to investigate.
She added: 'We've had to fight to get the help from those who can make a
'difference, the police and 'authorities. Our chances of finding her are
improving.' |
