New prosecutor in Portimão authorised the diligences that were requested by English police

Some of the people that will soon be questioned by the Polícia Judiciária (PJ), upon request from English police that investigates Madeleine McCann’s disappearance, will be heard as arguidos, Correio da Manhã has found. The new diligences have been authorised by the new Portimão Public Ministry’s prosecutor, Inês Sequeira, and are part of the fifth letter rogatory that was sent to Portugal by British authorities.

As Correio da Manhã was able to find out, the list for the questioning includes approximately ten persons, Portuguese and British. Most of them will be heard as witnesses, but some will be made arguidos before the start of the interrogation. All of them will formally be heard for the first [time] after the green light from the Public Ministry’s magistrate. Questioning will be performed by members of the PJ from Faro, who are cooperating with British authorities, and should take place before the end of the current month. British investigators will be able to suggest questions beforehand, but they will still have to request permission to watch the interrogations.

Among Scotland Yard’s new suspects, Correio da Manhã has found out, are former Ocean Club workers, the place where the child disappeared from in May of 2007, and residents of Praia da Luz, in Lagos. These are persons that the British investigators consider to be suspects of involvement in the disappearance of Maddie, following the thesis that the child was abducted during a failed burglary.

These new suspects will only be made arguidos in the process that has been opened in the United Kingdom and they will join the four arguidos that have already been questioned in June, also within the scope of the request for judicial cooperation. At that time, eleven witnesses were also heard.
